BRENTWOOD — Town Administrator Karen Clement is no longer employed by the town, but town officials haven’t revealed the circumstances surrounding her departure.

The Select Board announced Tuesday that Clement’s employment had ended. She had been out on paid leave since Oct. 9 along with Police Chief John Ventura.

In a brief public statement, board members said only that she was no longer an employee and that they “would like to thank Karen for her many years of good work for the town, and wish her the best on her future endeavors.”

Ventura, who was named chief in 2022, remains on leave, but his status is unclear.

Clement had served as town administrator since 2015.

During Clement’s leave, her administrative assistant, Jillian Benedix, has been available in the town administrator’s office to assist residents. The board has also urged members of the public to contact Select Board members if they need help with a town issue.

With the police chief still on leave, police Lt. Justin Doty continues to serve as officer in charge.

The Select Board has said little about the reasons for Ventura and Clement’s sudden departure last month. They went out on leave following an emergency Select Board meeting on Oct. 9 that was held behind closed doors. Their paid leave went into effect on the same day as the nonpublic meeting, but officials haven’t said whether the meeting was related.
