While out for a walk with their dog, a Pelham resident discovered something peculiar, police said.

Another dog — black, fluffy and unbothered — was stuck at the bottom of a storm drain, smiling up at the passersby, the Pelham Police Department said in a Wednesday Facebook post.

The dog had crawled through a drainage pipe into the storm drain, according to police.

“He didn’t appear to be concerned about the predicament he put himself in,” officers said in the post.

Responding officers were able to remove the catch basin grate and bring the dog back up to safety, officials said. The pet did not have injuries and was later reunited with its owner, according to the post.

Several people commented on Facebook, responding to the cute rescue.

“Poor baby, so glad someone found him,” one person said.

“Glad you’re ok Jack. Ty to the friendly officers that helped him out!!” commented another person.

One person pointed out in a Facebook comment that the dog appears to be a Schipperke. According to the American Kennel Club, Schipperkes are “curious, lively, and intense but mischievous.”
