CONCORD — A new education funding commission with a $500,000 budget began its work Monday, electing a chairman and roughing out an agenda for the short window it has for this complex and politically controversial task.

Three-term State Rep. David Luneau, D-Hopkinton, was named Monday to chair a new, 16-person commission to explore the current education finance system and recommend any changes for it. Luneau is vice chairman of the House Education Committee and past chairman of his town's school board.
