A Massachusetts man has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after the vehicle he was driving struck and killed a bear in Hollis on Sunday.
Hollis police responded to a report around 6:15 p.m. Sunday of a motor vehicle accident involving a bear at Broad Street near Pine Hill Road. Upon arrival, officers determined the bear had died.
The driver of the vehicle involved, identified by Hollis police as Timothy Harrigan, 30, of Leominster, Mass., was charged with driving under the influence aggravated, driving under the influence and an open container violation after police reported noticing signs of impairment.
Hollis police said the aggravated driving under the influence charge is due to Harrigan allegedly having a blood alcohol level of .17, more than double the legal limit of .08, at the time of the crash.
Harrigan was processed and released on personal recognizance bail. He will be arraigned in Nashua District Court at a later date.
Hollis police said Harrigan arranged for a ride from the police station, but his ride, identified by police as Sarah Chicoine, 29, of Nashua, was determined to be operating on a suspended license and suspended registrations, police said.
Chicoine was issued a summons to appear in Nashua District Court on charges of driving after revocation/suspension and suspension of vehicle registration.
