A Vermont man faces multiple charges after crashing into a New Hampshire state trooper’s vehicle during a Thanksgiving snowstorm on Interstate 89.
Daniel Poroj, 22, of Shelburne, Vermont, was summoned to appear in Hillsborough District Court on March 18, 2025, following the incident on Thursday.
State police said a trooper was assisting a disabled vehicle in the southbound breakdown lane near Sutton when Poroj’s 2009 black Honda Accord, allegedly traveling too fast for the conditions, slid on snow and struck the marked cruiser. The vehicle, unable to stop, then hit a Department of Transportation pickup truck, State Police said.
Both the trooper and Poroj were treated for minor injuries at New London Hospital.
Poroj is charged with operating without a valid license, negligent driving, operating an unregistered vehicle, violating the “Move Over” law, and driving too fast for road conditions.
The New Hampshire State Police reminded drivers to slow down, move over, and give wide berth to emergency vehicles on highways. Violators face fines of $75 for a first offense and $250 for subsequent offenses within 12 months.
State police were assisted at the scene by New London police and fire departments, Sutton Fire Department, and state transportation officials.
