The last few days of Laconia Motorcycle Week saw several motorcycle and car crashes on New Hampshire roads, but not as many as in 2023, New Hampshire State Police said.
One person was killed and 11 were injured in 82 motor vehicle crashes Thursday through Monday, according to the Department of Safety’s Fatal Crash Unit. The state does not yet have a breakdown of how many crashes involved motorcycles during Bike Week, which ran from June 8-16.
In 2023, there were 92 motor vehicle crashes, 15 with injuries, from Thursday to the end of Bike Week, compared to 67 (15 with injuries) in the same time frame in 2022, officials said.
As of Monday, 47 people have died in 44 crashes on New Hampshire roads this year, including 11 motorcycle riders, police said. Ten of the deaths were motorcycle operators and one was a passenger.
No motorcycle fatalities were reported in New Hampshire last week, State Police said.
But in Bethel, Maine, David Roy, 61, of Berlin, was killed Saturday evening in a crash involving a Toyota Prius, the Lewiston Sun Journal reported. The driver of the Prius, Arin Palmer, 43, of Hoover, Alabama, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence resulting in death and manslaughter.
Two motorcyclists suffered serious injuries in a crash on Route 3 north near Cook’s Corner in Campton around 5 p.m. Friday. One rider lost control on a sharp ‘S’ curve and the other lost control trying to avoid the first, police said.
Both riders were taken to Concord Hospital, where one of them had life-threatening injuries. Neither were wearing helmets, police said.
