What motivates you to give back to your community?
Giving back is really about continuing to build on the ecosystem that helped build my career. I moved to New Hampshire in 2013 for college, where I was afforded many incredible opportunities thanks to great professors and mentors. When I started working in the tech industry at Dyn, I realized that so many people don’t have the same type of mentorship that I received, so I’ve set out to make sure I can provide that to members of our community. I took this a step further and realized I could make more of an impact if I looked beyond the scope of professional impact, which led me to start volunteering in more community-based efforts like Make-A-Wish.
What advice would you give your 22-year-old self?
Advocate for yourself! At 22, I was an individual contributor in a technical role and knew I wanted to move into leadership. At the time, I thought that those next steps would present themselves to me. I remember feeling disappointed that I wasn’t asked to apply for new roles at the company. Now, I am vocal and advocate for myself, seeking new opportunities, not waiting for them to come to me.
What would make New Hampshire more attractive to young professionals?
The current wave of young professionals, myself included, are career-oriented, community-loving, and seek out convenience. New Hampshire should focus on providing affordable housing, more walkable communities, and driving technology innovation in the state. Fortunately, we have observed some progress in these areas over the past few years, especially in Southern New Hampshire, which will hopefully attract more young professionals to the state.
Do you see yourself living and working in New Hampshire at age 55-plus?
Yes! I’ve found incredible opportunities for myself personally and professionally in New Hampshire. The state has continued to develop in my 10 years here and always has something new and exciting to do. Proximity to the mountains, the beach, and great food doesn’t hurt either! When I think about what I want my life to look like at 55, New Hampshire is where that takes place.
