Micky Garst will spend a minimum of nine years in prison after pleading guilty to shooting a woman in the leg outside the former 603 Bar and Grill on Elm Street in Manchester, the Hillsborough County Attorney’s Office said.
Garst, 34, pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree assault, felon in possession of a dangerous weapon and falsifying evidence, according to a news release.
Judge David Anderson sentenced Garst to a minimum of nine years and a maximum of 30 years at the New Hampshire State Prison. Garst had previously been convicted on robbery and burglary charges and was prohibited from possessing a firearm at the time of the shooting, according to the news release.
Shortly before midnight on Feb. 19, police found a woman on Lowell Street suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The woman was taken to a local hospital, according to Manchester police.
Police located Garst several hours after the shooting and arrested him.
Garst also received sentences of a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 20 years, suspended for 25 years from his release and a minimum of 3½ years and a maximum of seven years, all suspended for 30 years from his release.
Garst’s public defender, Eric Raymond, did not return an email from the Union Leader seeking comment.
The county attorney worked closely with Elliot Hospital and Manchester Police Department during the investigation and prosecution by Laura Del Camp and Patrick Ives.
“The county attorney commends the victim for her bravery and steadfastness throughout the prosecution and wishes her luck in her continued recovery,” a news release said.
